Founded in 2016, the English Theatre Company is a group of around 45 actors and technical crew that stage English language plays in and around the Gers, Haute-Garonne and Haute Pyrénées départements in south-west France.
Our May 2024 production was Quartet, a saucy comedy about three retired opera singers living out their twilight years in a retirement home for musicians who are joined by a former opera diva. Chaos ensued as the quartet grows old disgracefully.
Quartet starred Ian Warwick, Rebecca Shields, Tim Caudery and Maggie Crane and was performed in the village halls of Marciac, Sainte Dode and Boudrac.
Since we launched our amateur theatre group in 2016 we have staged 18 productions including classics like ‘Allo, ‘Allo, Calendar Girls, The Vicar of Dibley, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Under Milk Wood and Absurd Person Singular.
It is now our bold intention to stage the Olivier Award-winning comedy The 39 Steps — a hilarious, rumbustious adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller. All the elements of Hitchcock’s film masterpiece combine with a large dose of Monty Python to provide a fast-paced whodunnit that never fails to deliver a theatre full of laughter.
This renowned comedy has enjoyed huge success with two runs in the West End and one on Broadway and it will be returning to the West End this autumn for a third run. But there’s no need to travel to London, The English Theatre Company is staging this hilarious comedy in November in professional theatre venues in Lectoure and Trie-sur-Baïse.
